Parent & Student Policy

Thank you for choosing Sew Creative by MARA AMAR! I’m so excited to create a welcoming space where students can learn, sew, create, and repurpose with purpose.

These policies help keep our classroom safe, respectful, organized, and enjoyable for every student while protecting the time, materials, equipment, and creative work that goes into each class.

By enrolling your child in Sew Creative, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to the policies below.

1. CLASS MEMBERSHIP & BILLING

Sew Creative is offered as a monthly membership that includes weekly 1½-hour sewing classes.

Membership: $99/month

The monthly membership reserves your student's place in the class and helps cover instruction, classroom preparation, equipment, materials, and the continued operation of the program.

Monthly payments are processed through the payment method provided at enrollment and will automatically renew each billing period until the membership is canceled.

Because enrollment reserves a limited class space, monthly membership payments are non-refundable once the billing period has begun.

2. CANCELLATION POLICY

Families may cancel their Sew Creative membership at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal or by contacting MARA AMAR by email.

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid billing period. Your student's enrollment and reserved class space will remain active through the end of that billing period.

• Your current $99 monthly payment remains non-refundable once the billing period has begun.

• Your student may continue attending classes through the end of the current paid billing period.

• Cancelling your subscription will stop future recurring payments.

• No additional $99 payment will be charged after your cancellation has been processed.

• Partial-month refunds are not provided for cancellations made after a billing period has begun.

• If you choose to cancel, please do so before your next scheduled billing date to prevent the next monthly charge.

Example:
If your monthly payment is processed on September 1 and you cancel your subscription on September 15, your student may continue attending Sew Creative through the September billing period. Your subscription will then end at the conclusion of that paid period, and you will not be charged the $99 October payment.

Parents/guardians may manage their subscription through the Stripe Customer Portal, including viewing billing information and cancelling their subscription.

3. MISSED CLASSES & ABSENCES

Sew Creative is a monthly membership rather than a pay-per-class program.

Because your student's place is reserved in the class, missed classes do not result in a prorated tuition adjustment or refund.

If your child will miss a class, please notify MARA AMAR when possible.

When appropriate and when space allows, a make-up opportunity may be offered. Make-up classes are not guaranteed and depend on class availability, scheduling, and the nature of the missed class.

4. CLASS CANCELLATIONS, WEATHER & MINIMUM ENROLLMENT

MARA AMAR may occasionally need to cancel, postpone, or modify a class due to circumstances such as:

• Severe weather

• Facility closure

• Instructor illness or emergency

• Unsafe travel conditions

• Equipment or facility issues

• Other circumstances outside of reasonable control

When possible, parents will be notified as soon as reasonably possible.

If MARA AMAR cancels a class, a reasonable make-up, credit, or other solution may be provided depending on the circumstances.

Minimum Enrollment

Sew Creative classes are dependent on enrollment. MARA AMAR reserves the right to adjust, combine, reschedule, or cancel a class or session if minimum enrollment is not met.

Parents/guardians will be notified as soon as reasonably possible, and an appropriate alternative, make-up, or credit may be provided when applicable.

5. SEWING MACHINE & EQUIPMENT SAFETY

Sew Creative involves sewing machines, needles, pins, scissors, irons, and other classroom equipment.

Students will receive age-appropriate instruction regarding the safe use of sewing equipment.

Students are expected to:

• Follow instructor safety instructions.

• Use sewing machines and tools only as instructed.

• Keep hands and fingers away from moving needles and other moving parts.

• Walk carefully and appropriately in the classroom.

• Ask for help when they are unsure how to use a tool or machine.

• Never use classroom equipment in an unsafe or inappropriate manner.

• Treat all classroom equipment with care.

Students may not use equipment for which they have not received permission or instruction.

Parents/guardians understand that sewing is a hands-on activity involving tools and equipment that may cause accidental injury if used improperly.

A separate Sew Creative Safety Acknowledgment must be completed as part of enrollment.

6. STUDENT BEHAVIOR & RESPECT

Sew Creative is intended to be a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment.

Students are expected to:

• Treat classmates, instructors, and the facility with respect.

• Follow classroom instructions.

• Respect other students' personal space and creative work.

• Use appropriate language and behavior.

• Take care of shared equipment and materials.

• Participate in a way that supports a safe learning environment.

Bullying, harassment, intentional damage to property, aggressive behavior, or repeated unsafe behavior will not be permitted.

If a student's behavior creates a safety concern or significantly disrupts the learning environment, the parent/guardian may be contacted.

MARA AMAR reserves the right to remove a student from an activity or, when necessary, discontinue enrollment when continued participation creates a serious safety or classroom concern.

7. DROP-OFF & PICK-UP

Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their child arrives safely and is picked up promptly at the end of class.

Students should not be left unattended at the facility before the instructor is available to receive them.

Parents/guardians should notify MARA AMAR in advance if someone other than the usual parent/guardian will be picking up their child.

Parents/guardians must provide accurate emergency contact and authorized pickup information during enrollment.

Late Pick-Up

Parents/guardians are expected to arrive on time for student pick-up.

If you are unexpectedly delayed, please contact MARA AMAR as soon as possible.

A brief grace period may be provided for occasional delays. Repeated or extended late pick-ups may result in a late pick-up fee or may affect continued enrollment in the program.

If an emergency prevents a parent/guardian from arriving on time, please communicate with MARA AMAR so appropriate arrangements can be made.

8. STUDENT INDEPENDENCE

Sew Creative is designed to help students gradually develop confidence and independence with sewing.

Students may need occasional assistance with equipment, difficult techniques, or projects.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to allow students to learn through the process rather than completing projects for them.

The goal is not perfection—the goal is to learn, practice, create, and grow.

9. MATERIALS & PROJECTS

MARA AMAR may provide or supply materials for classroom projects, including new, donated, thrifted, repurposed, and/or secondhand materials.

Because Sew Creative incorporates upcycling and sustainability, materials may vary from week to week.

Projects may occasionally be adjusted based on available materials, student skill level, class pacing, or safety considerations.

Students are encouraged to appreciate the creative possibilities of repurposed materials.

10. PERSONAL ITEMS & STUDENT PROJECTS

Students are responsible for personal belongings they bring to class.

MARA AMAR is not responsible for lost, damaged, or misplaced personal items.

Completed student projects may be taken home at the end of the appropriate class/project period unless otherwise communicated.

11. PHOTOS & MEDIA

From time to time, MARA AMAR may photograph or record classroom activities for educational documentation, program promotion, social media, website content, or future Sew Creative materials.

A separate Photo & Media Permission will be provided during enrollment so parents/guardians can choose whether or not to give permission for their child's image to be used.

Photo/media permission is optional and is separate from the Sew Creative Parent & Student Policy.

12. ALLERGIES, MEDICAL & EMERGENCY INFORMATION

Parents/guardians are responsible for providing accurate information regarding any allergies, sensitivities, physical limitations, emergency contacts, or other information that may be important for the student's safety during class.

Please provide this information before the student's first class and notify MARA AMAR if important information changes.

In an emergency, appropriate emergency procedures may be followed and emergency services may be contacted when necessary.

13. PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY

Parents/guardians are responsible for:

• Providing accurate enrollment and emergency information.

• Providing authorized pickup information.

• Informing MARA AMAR of relevant safety concerns.

• Reviewing these policies with their student.

• Ensuring their student understands the importance of following safety instructions.

• Making sure tuition payments remain current.

• Following the cancellation procedures outlined above.

• Communicating important changes or concerns with MARA AMAR.

• Ensuring their child arrives and is picked up according to the class schedule.

14. PARENT COMMUNICATION

Email is the primary method of communication for Sew Creative. 

Parents/guardians should provide an accurate email address during enrollment and regularly monitor their email for important Sew Creative communications.

Schedule changes, class cancellations, important announcements, and program updates will be communicated by email whenever possible.

Parents/guardians may also contact MARA AMAR by phone and email with questions, concerns, or information regarding their student's participation.

15. CLASSROOM PHILOSOPHY

Sew Creative is more than learning how to operate a sewing machine.

Students are encouraged to develop:

Creativity • Confidence • Patience • Problem-Solving • Resourcefulness • Sustainability

Mistakes are part of learning. Students may make something imperfect, take it apart, try again, and discover a new way to create.

Through sewing and upcycling, we hope students learn that something old can have new purpose—and that their creativity has value.

16. POLICY CHANGES

MARA AMAR may update these policies when necessary to improve classroom safety, operations, scheduling, or the student experience.

Parents/guardians will be notified of significant policy changes when appropriate.
